Transport of Animals by Road – Short or Long Journey Training Course
Our training course is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills for the safe and legal transport of various species by road, whether for short or long journeys. This course is ideal for anyone involved in the transportation of livestock, including horses, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and game birds.
Training Content:
- Core Training Module: Introduction to the principles of animal transport, accessible online, allowing for flexible learning.
- Species-Specific Modules: Detailed training focused on the specific requirements and welfare considerations for different animal types.
- Legal Compliance: Understanding the legal framework governing animal transport.
- Journey Planning: How to effectively plan routes to minimise stress and ensure welfare.
- Vehicle Suitability and Maintenance: Ensuring vehicles are properly equipped and maintained for safe animal transport.
- Animal Welfare: Recognising signs of stress and understanding fitness for travel, space allowances, and stocking densities.
Equipment Required for Training:
- Online access via PC, laptop, or tablet.
- Audio capability for multimedia content.
Assessment Overview:
Following the training, participants can opt to undertake a City & Guilds NPTC assessment to gain formal qualification. The assessment is species-specific and tailored to the journey length, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Assessment Content:
- Type 1 - Short Journey Assessment: Consists of a single unit assessed via an online or oral test, focusing on the principles of short-distance animal transport.
- Type 2 - Long Journey Assessment: Includes three units, assessing the principles of long-distance transport both theoretically and through practical one-to-one sessions with an approved assessor, including a real transport journey.
Equipment Required for Assessment:
- Protective clothing such as Wellington boots with steel toe caps, non-snag outerwear, and waterproof attire.
