Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides PA1 Training Course

Our one-day training course is specifically designed to prepare candidates for the City and Guilds NPTC PA1 online assessment. Successfully passing this assessment, in conjunction with a practical unit, will award the operator a Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides, a legislative qualification crucial for anyone handling pesticides in a professional capacity.

Course Content:

  • Understanding Legislation: Comprehensive overview of the legal framework governing pesticide use.
  • Product Label Comprehension: Learning to accurately read and understand pesticide labels to ensure safe application.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Guidelines on the correct selection and use of PPE to safeguard against potential pesticide exposure.
  • Dealing with Contamination: Strategies for managing and mitigating pesticide contamination on both personal and environmental levels.
  • Storage and Transportation: Best practices for the safe storage and transportation of pesticides.
  • Disposal and Documentation: Efficient disposal methods for pesticides and their containers, along with meticulous record-keeping practices.
  • Environmental Protection: Emphasising the importance of water protection and general environmental safety during pesticide application.

Course Outcomes: 

By the end of the training, participants will be fully prepared to take the PA1 assessment, setting the foundation for further practical training in specific pesticide application techniques.

Equipment Required:

  • As the course is theory-based, pre-reading of the qualification guidance is recommended to enhance understanding and readiness for the assessment.

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be over 16 years of age.

Certification and Accreditation:

  • Upon successful completion, candidates may opt for accreditation by either NPTC or LANTRA, depending on their specific certification needs.
