Effective Deer Control with TRICO® Deer Repellent: A Seasonal Guide

At Wildscape Deer Management, we are committed to providing advanced solutions for deer control. Our TRICO® Deer Repellent collection is specifically designed to mitigate the detrimental impacts deer can have on your foliage, particularly in newly established forestry plantations. Here's a detailed guide on how to employ TRICO® Deer Repellent across different seasons to protect your plantations from deer browsing and fraying.

Winter Browsing Control

During the winter, deer are on the lookout for food, and your young plantations are at high risk. To protect the lead shoot in your new forestry plantations, be it coniferous or deciduous, the following application guidelines are recommended:

  • Application Rate: 10 - 20 Litres per hectare (L/ha) sprayed at a rate of 5 - 10 millilitres per lead shoot.
  • Number of Applications: One application annually.
  • Timing: Apply in autumn or early winter, before the commencement of damage.

Spring and Summer Browsing Control

As new growth sprouts in the spring and summer, deer browsing continues to be a threat. To protect new growth in both coniferous and deciduous plantations:

  • Application Rate: 10 - 20 L/ha applied as a neat spray at a rate of 5 - 10mls/lead shoot.
  • Number of Applications: One application annually.
  • Timing: Apply in spring or early summer, before the commencement of damage.

Deer Fraying Control

Deer fraying can cause significant damage to your trees. It occurs when deer remove velvet from their antlers, often using the top and centre of trees to do so:

  • Application Rate: 10 - 20 L/ha applied as a neat spray at a rate of 5 - 10mls/tree.
  • Number of Applications: One application annually.
  • Timing: Application should be made at the first signs of damage, usually in late summer when velvet removal occurs.

Bark Damage Control

Deer can also cause significant damage to the bark of trees, especially during harsh winter conditions when other food sources are scarce:

  • Application Rate: 10 - 20 L/ha applied as a neat spray at a rate of 100mls/tree trunk.
  • Number of Applications: One application annually.
  • Timing: Application should be made to the vulnerable part of the trunk (1.0-1.5m above the ground or snow level) at the first signs of damage.

With TRICO® Deer Repellent, you can maintain the integrity and health of your forestry plantations year-round. Adhering to the recommended application rates and timings will ensure optimal protection against deer intrusion and damage.
